Workforce Development Division
The Workforce Development Division (WDD) was created January 1, 2015 by the Yazoo County Economic Development District. The WDD is an arm of the YCEDD and its mission is to provide a program to enhance and develop a workforce forYazoo County by preparing K-12 students and members of the community to train and qualify for mechanical, administrative, and technical job opportunities.
The goal of the Workforce Development Division is to enhance the economic opportunities for the residents of our County in order for them to achieve the American Dream.
We partner with area Business and Industry to meet their workforce training needs. For individuals seeking employment or changing careers, we provide counseling and employability skills training.
We assist local Economic Development organizations in retaining and expanding existing Business and Industry and recruiting new Business and Industry to our community.
We work closely with businesses to design and present the types of training on demand that is needed by the clients. Training is presented only after extensive collaboration with the client to determine the exact needs of the business and the outcomes expected. A typical training scenario is presented that utilizes both lecture and hands-on work that is relevant to the training being conducted. Our training is conducted using personnel from the business requesting training, college personnel from both academic and vocational/technical areas, and subject area experts. The length of training varies and is dependent upon the scope.
The mission of the Workforce Development Division will be fulfilled by:
Coordination with local business, industry and healthcare providers with Holmes Community College for “Workforce Training” needs, requirements and establishment of training classes.
The We Can Learning Center program directed at the students and their families ofYazooCounty to mentor and reveal the opportunities for local employment for those adequately prepared.
The We Can Learning Center will also serve the general population under its program to assist in upgrading educational levels in preparation for workforce and other technical training required for local employment.
